Well, you done done me and you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill but your so hot that i melted
I fell right through the cracks, and i’m tryin to get back
before the cool done run out i’ll be givin it my best test
and nothin’s gonna stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it’s again my turn to win some or learn some

I won’t hesitate no more,
no more, it cannot wait i’m yours

Well open up your mind and see like me
open up your plans and damn you’re free
look into your heart and you’ll find love love love
listen to the music at the moment maybe sing with me
Ah, la peaceful melody
It’s your god forsaken right to be loved loved loved loved Loved

So, i won’t hesitate no more,
no more, it cannot wait i’m sure
there’s no need to complicate our time is short
this is our fate, i’m yours

I’ve been spendin’ way too long checkin’ my tongue in the mirror
and bendin’ over backwards just to try to see it clearer
my breath fogged up the glass
and so I drew a new face and laughed
I guess what I’m a sayin’is there ain’t no better reason
to rid yourself of vanity and just go with the seasons
it’s what we aim to do
our name is our virtue

I won’t hesitate no more, no more
it cannot wait, i’m sure
(there’s no need to complicate
our time is short
it cannot wait, i’m yours 2x

no please don’t complicate, our time is short
this is our fate, im yours.
no please don’t hesitate no more, no more
it cannot wait, the sky is yours!)

well open up your mind and see like me
open up your plans and damn you’re free
look into your heart and you’ll find love love love love
listen to the music of the moment come and dance with me
ah, la one big family
it’s your god forsaken right to be loved, loved, loved, loved
open up your mind and see like me
open up your plans and damn you’re free
look into your heart and you’ll find love love love love
listen to the music of the moment come and dance with me
ah, la happy family

Konnects Official Launch: Filling the LinkedIn-Facebook Gap

Posted by aggarat@sanook.com 20 สิงหาคม, 2008 (0) Comment

konnects logo

Konnects is a social network entering the crowded realm of business social networking, seeking out those users that are caught in limbo between the likes of LinkedIn and Facebook. And while this space is getting more crowded by the day, I think Konnects has a good idea of what it’s targeting in terms of its solutions presented on its site, as well as its ongoing plan of action. Having privately tested its network for the past year, Konnects now boasts 350,000 users taking advantage of its online service upon its public launch, which aims to provide your “traditional” social networking tools in a manner suitable for business use. This goes for both individuals and companies alike.

So what’s this gap between LinkedIn and Facebook that Konnects is trying to bridge? Konnects isn’t as restrictive as LinkedIn, and more business-oriented than Facebook. Instead of having a user profile that looks like a resume, Konnects understands that many recent grads and newcomers don’t have a decade of work experience and would benefit from having a place to discuss and showcase what their current life represents. The same goes for early-stage startups: what projects are they currently working on, and what issues are important to them? Such promotion occurs in features like blogs, photos, etc., which is more reminiscent of the features you’ll find on Facebook.

example of an independent network built on konnects

Even though Facebook lets you organize your friends into various groups now, the whole of Facebook isn’t designed solely for business networking purposes. This may not sound too different from other business networks that have emerged in the past year or so, but Konnects has a couple of other features that bring an interesting mix of Web-based tools into the business-networking realm. For instance, Konnects will not only recommend people you may want to connect with, but it’s also building a recommendation system that will deliver suggested groups, discussions and forums you may want to join, as well as user-generated content (such as blog entries) that you may be interested in viewing.

There are also user-generated groups that can be created as standalone entities, designed for use by companies and professional organizations that would like a place to network. This feature operates more like Ning than a group you can create on a site like Facebook, giving the network admin the capability of creating a walled garden if need be. Similar to Soceeo, end users can join and manage multiple groups from their centralized location.

Other upcoming features will be the inclusion of chat IM and VoIP integration, enabling users to connect with each other in multiple and direct ways. Konnects CEO and co-founder Jim Crabbe explains that all these integrated tools along with the recommendation engine are designed to factor in relevancy and time, so that users can “get to know each other when they meet in person, instead of having to deal with the nitty gritty details of building a relationship.” This means that Konnects is focused on providing as many tools for direct transactions as it can, when connecting its users with each other.

BlastGroups is Twine Plus Pownce for Group Media Sharing

Posted by aggarat@sanook.com 20 สิงหาคม, 2008 (0) Comment

blastgroups logo

BlastGroups is a new service that has set out to replace your casual groups on sites like Yahoo with features that combine group capabilities with email blasts, in order to easily share content with a given group of friends. BlastGroups gives users the ability to create and join multiple groups, and manage content across these groups.

blastgroups message blast page

Instead of a networking format that you may be accustomed to, BlastGroups works a lot more like Twine, with a bit of Pownce functionality mixed in for sharing a stream of content with friends. You can bookmark content as you surf the Web and pick which groups you’d like to share this content with. Beyond this bookmarking feature, you can also share files and photos with a given group, similar to box.net.

The email-blasting capability comes into play when you share content with friends, but it’s still limited in the traditional sense of email blasts, which are typically used for marketing purposes. Personally, I think this is a good thing. But you can still create an event and send out a blast to friends, so there is the potential for BlastGroups to become a marketing tool that mimics social media sharing and not just a direct marketing tool. In some regards, this could be a new way in which people can reach out to a group of contacts, but BlastGroups, as a more social tool, doesn’t have the robust features for doing things like collecting and managing contact information such as mobile phone numbers.

One drawback to a service like BlastGroups is that it has little import integration with other bookmarking and networking sites. As sites like Facebook add more capabilities for private network sharing, friends lists, and privacy settings, the ability to share content and send messages out to a group of selected few, the capability that BlastGroups provides is essentially contained within Facebook. Nevertheless, additional integration with bookmarking tools and social media sharing sites will make the use of BlastGroups’ service easier for end users.

Google pipped - Apple the new king of Silicon Valley as market value overtakes hi-tech rival

Posted by aggarat@sanook.com 18 สิงหาคม, 2008 (0) Comment

Apple corporate HQ in Cupertino, California

The sleek, touchscreen iPhone has proved so lucrative for Apple that the electronic gadgets manufacturer has unseated Google to become the most valuable company in America’s cradle of technological innovation, Silicon Valley.

Queues outside Apple’s stores are commonplace since the phone’s launch a year ago as shoppers line up to get their hands on the prized device.

On Wall Street, the phenomenal popularity of the phone has fuelled a 44% surge in Apple’s share price in 12 months. By the close of trading on Wednesday, Apple’s market value had edged up to $158.8bn - a shade ahead of Google’s $157.2bn.

Apple’s predominance amounts to a shift in the balance of power in the hi-tech world. The company has repeatedly been able to eclipse rivals with its distinctive, easy-to-use designs. The iMac and the iPod continue to be firm favourites among laptop computer buyers and music fans.

Meanwhile, Google’s once dazzling star has waned slightly as America’s economic slowdown has eaten into online advertising and investors have wondered how the company can produce solid profits from expensive ventures such as the video-sharing website YouTube.

Scott Kessler, an equities analyst specialising in technology at Standard & Poor’s in New York, said the twin fortunes of Apple and Google were central to the technological landscape: “These are the two companies most currently identified with the notion of innovation - not just in Silicon Valley or in this country but arguably in the world.”

The milestone amounts to a reassertion of success by an older technological generation. Apple was founded by schoolfriends Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in 1976 making it elderly in comparison to Google which has only existed for 10 years.

Experts say Apple’s distinctive skill is its ability to reinvent itself with new products which are typically kept secret until the last possible moment.

“It’s one of the few companies that has been able to internally develop a number of blockbuster products and killer applications,” said Kessler.

Apple fans tend to attribute a large chunk of the company’s success to the personal entrepreneurial instincts of Jobs, who is chief executive and is heavily involved in product development. When Jobs appeared to be gaunt and thinner than usual, Apple’s stock briefly slumped last night before the company scotched rumours that he was ill.

While Apple and Google differ widely in their business models, they have a degree of personal overlap. Google’s chief executive, Eric Schmidt, sits on Apple’s board as a non-executive director. The companies are based barely five miles apart in a sprawling hi-tech corridor running south of San Francisco. Apple is in the town of Cupertino while Google is in neighbouring Mountain View.

Neither company offered any immediate reaction to the shift in supremacy. Apple did not return calls and a Google spokesman said: “We never comment on our stock price.”

However, Apple has had few qualms about boasting of its prowess in the past. When the company’s value overtook the computer maker Dell two years ago, Jobs sent out a companywide email reminding staff that Dell’s founder had once predicted Apple’s imminent demise.

“Team, it turned out that Michael Dell wasn’t perfect at predicting the future,” wrote Jobs. “Stocks go up and down, and things may be different tomorrow, but I thought it was worth a moment of reflection today.”

For Apple, the iPhone has provided an edge in creativity and convenience. When a 3G version of the phone came out last month, Apple sold a million of the handsets in a single weekend.

Google is comfortably the global leader in online searches but has seen slowing growth in “paid clicks” - the number of times users alight on lucrative advertisements. Google says this is because better tailored advertising has led to better quality, but less numerous, clicks.

Google’s shares, which topped $700 late last year, have settled back to just over $500 - but the company’s founders, Sergey Brin, 34, and Larry Page, 35, remain billionaires who travel the world on a customised Boeing 767.

The pair see conquering space as their next challenge and have put up a $20m prize to anyone who produces a privately financed spacecraft able to land on the moon.

Head-to-head

Apple

· Founded in a bedroom in Los Altos, California, by schoolfriends Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in 1976

· Recently settled a long trademark battle with the Beatles’ record company Apple Corps, over use of the word “apple” to sell music

· Began as a computer manufacturer and has diversified into iPod media players, iTunes online music sales and, most recently, iPhone touchscreen mobile phones

· Apple’s iTunes website has sold more than 5bn songs

· Annual sales of $24bn and profits of $3.5bn

Google

· Established by Stanford University graduates Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998

· Based initially in a garage in Menlo Park, California

· Named after the word googol - which is the number one followed by one hundred zeros

· Has expanded from a powerful internet search engine into online applications such as word processing and spreadsheet tools, and owns the video-sharing website YouTube

· The company slogan is “don’t be evil”

Small India-Based Social Shopping Site Storrz Starts Thinking Big

Posted by aggarat@sanook.com 18 สิงหาคม, 2008 (0) Comment

The concept of social shopping on the Web has been tailored in various ways by many outfits already. Sites launched for that very purpose have been coming on steady for several seasons now, some to greater effect than others. But more are on their way. Or, alternately, those playing the community-based commerce game are expanding. Such is the case for Storrz.

Based in the city of Bangalore, India, Storrz has built itself from a root focus of shopping into something it feels comfortably in calling a “social shopping mall.” This label is quite new, however. It first established itself as a general commerce destination. (It is self-titled as “India’s only marketplace to offer groceries online.”)

Featured in a number of Indian Internet publications - it was given momentary mention by various sites with an eye toward the Proto.in conference this year, a startup event held in Delhi last month - Storrz might have a shot going into the final quarter of 2008 and beyond with a good name. The size of its audience makes for a tough road, though. It is anything but extraordinary. Budding is more like it. The company’s director, Chandan Maruthi, touts a team of 6 individuals comprising technology, sales, and operations responsibilities, and he notes Storrz’s connections with “65+ merchants selling 6500+ products across 130 categories.”

Yes, Storrz is small name. It will need to bring more of everything across its servers - sellers, goods, and buyers - to boost its financial health. A user-friendly design, no matter how simple, has little value if it isn’t matched with a generous supply of content or product. Seeing as how India’s e-commerce engine is fast-expanding along with the rest of the world’s, Storrz would definitely do well to grow itself fast at this time. But its design, which seems to have a fairly good balance of social interaction and product search, makes it seem like it may just be a worthwhile place to go. At the foundation it is something to keep an eye on, I think.

Curious to know how Storrz intends to make itself sustainable? It operates on a two-part business model of commissions as well as targeted advertising based on user activity and profile data. Basic enough, and in line with general trends in the industry. But it may be a bit too eager on the commission front. 10-25% of the sale price, is its claim for success.

The Twitting Point

Posted by aggarat@sanook.com 18 สิงหาคม, 2008 (0) Comment

Twitter users are going manga kerrazy, replacing their avatars with those from FaceYourManga. If you’ve got a manga Twitter avatar you’d like to share, post a link to your Twitter account in the comments. Or, read on for further thoughts on this intriguing trend.

Twitter’s Manga Invasion

The above graph was extracted from a viral marketer’s wet dream. It shows the sudden, seemingly inexplicable rise of the terms “manga” (green line) and “faceyourmanga” (red line) on the social messaging service Twitter.

FaceYourManga, for those not familiar with this veritable Pet Rock of the Twittering classes, is a tool for creating your own manga avatar (my attempt sits atop this article, accompanied by a colorful array of carefully crafted toons).

The trip to social media domination was a short one: the buzz began on Thursday morning and peaked at 4pm Friday. But don’t go thinking this twend has Tweeted out: we simply don’t have today’s data yet. Meanwhile, traffic rankings (dare I say Alexa?) indicate the buzz did indeed convert to heavy usage of the service.

It’s about Distribution, Dumbass!

Of course, personalization is not a new addition to the viral marketer’s toolbox: campaigns like OfficeMax’s ElfYourself - which allows visitors to turn themselves into dancing elves - have taken the web by storm. And yet the addition of Twitter turns a snowball into an avalanche: instantaneous content sharing to groups numbering in the thousands. In short: not a new idea, simply a new channel.

Unwittingly tripping over this new paradigm, FaceYourManga hit the social media equivalent of a home run: hundreds of Twitter users switching their avatars en masse, then encouraging their friends to do the same.

Call it critical mass. Call it viral spread. Call it the Tipping Point. Or, perhaps more fittingly, The Twitting Point.

TubePopper Offers an Alternative Annotation Tool for YouTube

Posted by aggarat@sanook.com 16 สิงหาคม, 2008 (0) Comment

tubepopper logo

TubePopper is the latest to take on the video annotation space. It’s a tough space to enter, as there are a number of video annotation tools already out there, some of which were out before YouTube’s own annotate option for adding pop up messages within a given video clip. So far, TubePopper’s main point of differentiation is its easy-to-use interface and additional feature options, such as more available colors for its speech bubbles.

It looks like TubePopper is also limited to the videos available on YouTube, though finding one to annotate is easy enough. Enter the URL for the YouTube video you’d like to annotate, or perform a YouTube video search directly on TubePopper’s site. Beyond this, TubePopper has the expected networking features: embedding options, commenting, related clips, and one-click sharing across various social networks and bookmarking sites, which is a feature powered by Gigya.

tubepopper annotation page

Of course, even with all these features there’s still one thing that YouTube and even Mojiti have that TubePopper is lacking–the videos created with YouTube annotate can be viewed on YouTube.

Given the image and video annotation and editing capabilities that are being integrated directly into social media sharing sites like Photobucket, I imagine that TubePopper will need to find additional ways in which it can bring value to users through its service. A desktop version and perhaps an option to upload your own content which can subsequently be sent to YouTube could be a starting place for TubePopper.

For Yahoo, momentum, not management, a problem

Posted by aggarat@sanook.com 15 สิงหาคม, 2008 (0) Comment

The trials and tribulations of the Yahoo executive suite have been well chronicled in the media off late: from the recent exit of their sales ace to Terry Semel being replaced by co-founder Jerry Yang, as the top man on the totem pole. The management shuffle aside, Yahoo has a bigger problem on its hand: the traffic, be it search or total visits is beginning to resemble New York Yankees in the Major League Baseball rankings.

Folks from Citibank analyzed the data collected by comScore, and found that Yahoo has started to lose ground to Google in terms of total visitors.

The total number of visitors to various Google properties was up 18% (year-over-year comparison) to 536 million, with Microsoft getting 528 million (up 5%), and Yahoo being #3 with an actual decline – about 2% (year-over year comparison) in the number of monthly visitors to 470 million. This is the second month of consecutive declines for Yahoo.

To put things in context, the worldwide Internet traffic grew 9% in the month of May 2007, while US saw a 3% increase in the traffic for the month. In US, Yahoo remains #1 with 131 million visitors, up 0.3%, the lowest we have tracked. Google is at #3 position with 120 million unique visitors, up 15% year-over-year.

Chart of traffic growth

Like most, I do feel that comScore and its methodology leave a lot to be desired, though they are a good trend-indicator. The trends don’t bode well for Yahoo. If monthly unique visitors page views are (flat to) down, then this could (indirectly) impact Yahoo’s bread-and-butter brand & display advertising business, as the company indicated in their most recent chat with the analysts. (Maybe Wanda Harris Millard, the outgoing Yahoo sales ace was robbed of her job.)

Yahoo has already lost the search battle and is losing the mindshare as well. It trails in mobile search business as well. In mobile space, M:Metrics reports that smart phone users prefer Google over Yahoo when it comes to mobile services, especially in US and UK, where Google commands 62.5% and 31% reach. Yahoo in comparison has about 33.5% and 11% reach respectively.

In an increasingly competitive marketplace, Yahoo seems to be losing momentum, especially in areas where it has been traditionally strong. It is going to be a long slog for Jerry Yang and his crew before Yahoo is restored to its growing ways – it that is at all possible.

Visual Search Platform Viewzi Launches Timeline View

Posted by aggarat@sanook.com 15 สิงหาคม, 2008 (0) Comment
viewzi-logoVisual search platform Viewzi launched “The Timeline” view this week. We reviewed Viewzi back in April, but they’ve added a whole new experience to their search platform with this new lens on content. Now you can look up something like “iPhone apps” and you’ll receive a plethora of search engine results from left to right, rather than top to bottom.

viewzi-screen

When you mouse over an article, the article lights up in blue and gives you a brief description. From there, you can click on the blue box, which will give you a larger snippet of text as well as a screenshot of the page and the date of the article. From there, you can click a green button and be on your way to the page.

Search engine result pages are displayed from top to bottom in order of relevance and are colored from light blue (most relevant) to dark blue (less relevant). Pages are also displayed on the timeline from right to left according to the last updated timestamp. Viewzi gets its timestamp data from Google.
The timeline is expandable, and you can drag a white bar across the top of the screen to search older results or scan more recent results. One thing I wish Viewzi had in the timeline view is the ability to get rid of some of the results (for my own viewing purposes), by offering me a little X at the top of a single result. Or at least the ability to hide a result so I could sift through more of them.

Overall, this has always been a remarkable looking search engine, so timeline view is a great addition to the package.

In other Viewzi news, the team is also developing an iPhone app that gives you multiple views (text, photo, etc.) and will let you bookmark your favorites under your Viewzi account.

They’re also building an Adobe Air desktop app that functions as a media

A man without love~ Listen up!

Posted by aggarat@sanook.com 15 สิงหาคม, 2008 (0) Comment

I can remember when we walked together
Sharing a love I thought would last forever
Moonlight to show the way so we can follow
Waiting inside her eyes was my tomorrow
Then somethin’ changed her mind, her kisses told me
I had no lovin’ arms to hold me

Every day I wake up, then I start to break up
Lonely is a man without love
Every day I start out, then I cry my heart out
Lonely is a man without love

Every day I wake up, then I start to break up
Knowing that it’s cloudy above
Every day I start out, then I cry my heart out
Lonely is a man without love

I cannot face this world that’s fallen down on me
So, if you see my girl please send her home to me
Tell her about my heart that’s slowly dying
Say I can’t stop myself from crying

Every day I wake up, then I start to break up
Lonely is a man without love
Every day I start out, then I cry my heart out
Lonely is a man without love

Every day I wake up, then I start to break up
Knowing that it’s cloudy above
Every day I start out, then I cry my heart out
Lonely is a man without love

Every day I wake up, then I start to break up
Lonely is a man without love

Pikaba is Classifieds Recommendations for Buyers (The Startup Review)

Posted by aggarat@sanook.com 15 สิงหาคม, 2008 (0) Comment

How Classified website became 2.0 Read this and copy then…………………………..

pikaba logo

20 word description: Pikaba is a social shopping community offering a reverse auction model where merchants bid for your shopping needs.

CEO’s 100 word description: Pikaba (founded by Microsoft ex-SQL Marketing Director) is a consumer-oriented social shopping community that harnesses the power of social networking to bring sellers and buyers together.

Pikaba offers an online marketplace to buy/sell any goods and services and make your shopping process as simple as ABC:

* Post requests asking any product or service
* Pick up best deals based on vendor’s competition, community’s recommendations (from Pikaba members and Advisors) and group buy.

In addition new website functionality will soon allow you to manage your favorite products in ‘wish lists’ and arrange ‘got lists’ to showcase your unique shopping experience.

Mashable’s Take: Pikaba is a new classifieds site that uses people’s requests as a core feature of its search capabilities. Instead of simply searching for items you’d like on Pikaba, you can submit a request for an item you’re looking for and take the wait-and-see approach.

pikaba screenWhile most classifieds sites like Craigslist already have sections where users can post their requests, Pikaba is hoping to benefit both buyers and sellers by providing a marketplace that is built around consumer needs for defining an actual point of demand. The ads placed by those requesting items to purchase are similar to a regular classifieds ad, with description and images, etc.
Though a major focus of Pikaba is the requests posted by buyers, sellers can still post their items just as easily. Unlike other automated matching and payment systems like Dawdle, Pikaba still follows a more traditional method for connecting buyers and sellers, though there are some additional price comparison options for buyers to select the seller with the best deal, and other options for embedding an ad across the web.

As we’ve seen with services like Zliok, one great byproduct of this approach is that the seller can easily identify the items they should invest in to rent or sell. Of course, the marketplace needs to be large enough to support a seller actually investing in such a system, but it certainly helps the larger supply and demand chain when you have such supplemental data at your disposal.

Outside of its own marketplace, this data can be used for search and recommendation purposes, on a number of levels. For instance, this consumer data could be used somehow at the local level for a search engine such as grayboxx, or at the broader level with recommendations from a service such as myStrands.

Lijit offers social search widgets for individual blogs or online publishing networks seeking additional traffic and recommendations. Through connecting one’s social media content (and beyond) across the Web, Lijit can create a well-linked stream of collective of products that allows site visitors and readers to extend their relevant experience based on topics of interest and in turn generate more traffic and revenue for the publisher.

With the funding, Lijit now plans to begin monetizing all of those widgets, launching its own ad network. Additionally, Lijit will be expanding opening new offices and hiring more employees so that the company can continue to develop new products and maintain subsequent development

Hope Abounds, but Where’s the Reality in Mobile TV?

Posted by aggarat@sanook.com 15 สิงหาคม, 2008 (0) Comment

All this talk about Mobile TV has gotten out of hand lately.  First, people claim that it’s the future and the next thing you know, you can’t get rid of it.  And to make matters worse, the iPhone has complicated matters even more and according to some, has forced companies to start thinking of ways to bring mobile TV to your life in a big way.

“iPhone’s success raised the bar of consumer expectations regarding mobile multimedia,” said John du Pre Gauntt, senior analyst at eMarketer. “Handset manufacturers worldwide are in the midst of revamping their product lines against this new benchmark.”

And although I’m still suspect about the future of Mobile TV and personally feel that it’s nothing more than a waste of time and money, others tend to disagree.  In fact, many companies think it could be at the epicenter of the rise in mobile advertising over the next few years.

But when the reality of the situation hits them squarely on the face, I’m sure they’ll come around to the thought that mobile TV advertising has no future because the space is littered with products that suffer from poor video quality and even worse programming, creating an experience that fails to capture the quality and usability of watching a YouTube video on an iPhone or even watching a video online.

As Gaunt explains, “Until consumers are presented with a clear-cut, simple and inexpensive value model for accessing mobile video and TV content, it will be hard to segment audiences at either an industry or geographic level.”
