ความหมายของ Domain Name
+ ชื่อที่สามารถเป็นเจ้าของ เมื่อผู้ใช้กรอกชื่อลงไปในช่อง Address ของ Internet Explorer ก็จะส่งชื่อโดเมนไปร้องถามจากเครื่องบริการแปลชื่อโดเมน (Domain Name Server) และได้รับไอพีแอดเดรส (Internet Protocol Address) เพื่อเชื่อมต่อไปยังเครื่องบริการที่มีหมายเลขไอพีนั้นเป็นลำดับต่อไป
+ โดเมนเนม คือ ชื่อที่ใช้อ้างถึงหมายเลขไอพีของเครื่องบริการ เพื่อให้ง่ายต่อการจดจำ เช่น google.com หรือ thailand.com เป็นต้น
+ A name that is entered into a computer (e.g. as part of a Web site or other URL, or an e-mail address) and then looked up in the global Domain Name System which informs the computer of the IP address(es) with that name.

ICANN :The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is an internationally organized, non-profit corporation that has responsibility for Internet Protocol (IP) address space allocation, protocol identifier assignment, generic (gTLD) and country code (ccTLD) Top-Level Domain name system management, and root server system management functions. These services were originally performed under U.S. Government contract by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and other entities. ICANN now performs the IANA function.
ICANN (pronounced “I can”) is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. Headquartered in Marina Del Rey, California, ICANN is a California non-profit corporation that was created on September 18, 1998 in order to oversee a number of Internet-related tasks previously performed directly on behalf of the U.S. Government by other organizations, notably IANA.
The tasks of ICANN include managing the assignment of domain names and IP addresses. To date, much of its work has concerned the introduction of new generic top-level domains. The technical work of ICANN is referred to as the IANA function; the rest of ICANN is mostly about defining policy.
